The Ettlingen Year 12 at the Theatre

On Friday evening, 31st March, the Ettlingen English teachers and one colleague from HBG Karlsruhe with her pupils went, as each year, with their A-Level candidates  to the ‘Kulturhalle Remchingen’  to watch the American Drama Group perform ‘Half Broke Horses’, a play based on the novel by Jeannette Walls, and one of the major topics of the English A-Level examination. The production was staged with excellent actors and singers who recounted with music and wit the biography of Lily Casey Smith, grandmother of the author. It was impressive to see how, with few props, the four actors were able to portray many different characters and convey an authentic atmosphere in the diverse scenes. Due to the upcoming A-Level examination, this entertaining evening was an enjoyable revision of the major themes in the novel, and also a reminder of the encouragement Lily was given, “When God closes a window, he opens a door.’
